Filipina-Owned Mostra Coffee Hits a Home Run as the Official Coffee Partner of the San Diego Padres

When Mostra Coffee officially partnered with the San Diego Padres as their proud coffee partner at Petco Park, it was more than a business win—it was a full-circle moment for co-founder Jelynn Malone, a proud Filipina-American, entrepreneur, and lifelong Padres fan.
"I’m legitimately crying right now—like, real tears," Malone admitted during the interview, visibly emotional when asked what it meant to represent the Filipino community on such a major platform.
“I got into the industry because I wanted to create representation in the media for Filipino Americans and Asian Americans.”
From Passion Project to Powerhouse Brand
Mostra Coffee’s story didn’t begin with a caffeine obsession, but with a calling. Co-Founder and TV host/actress Jelynn Malone, along with her best friend of 27 years, Beverly Magtanong, a professional opera singer, were deeply moved after a philanthropic trip to the Philippines in 2009 with the non-profit Gawad Kalinga.
“We experienced the beautiful culture of the people in the Philippines,” Malone said. “But there was also so much poverty, and it was hard to ignore that part of it. On that trip, we knew—we needed to find a way to help eradicate poverty in the Philippines. This is not okay.”
Three and a half years later, they founded Mostra Coffee—despite the fact that neither of them drank coffee, let alone knew how it was made. But after learning that the Philippines was once the fourth-largest coffee producer in the world, they were inspired to change the narrative: to create international demand for Philippine specialty coffee and, in turn, build sustainable livelihoods for Filipino farmers.
A major distributor told them Philippine coffee didn’t even exist. Still, with family support and relentless determination, they pressed on. Beverly’s mom bought their first roaster, and Jelynn’s Lolo and Lola contributed money for their first four bags of beans. From there, Mostra was born—and they never looked back.
More Than Coffee
That same dedication to excellence and representation now fuels the brand’s meteoric rise. Mostra (which means “show” or “performance” in Italian) isn’t just about coffee—it’s about showing up and performing at the highest level. As Malone puts it, that applies to everyone: athletes, parents, professionals, entrepreneurs.
That mindset drew the attention of sports organizations aligned with the brand’s values. Mostra first partnered with the San Diego Wave FC, a professional women’s soccer team. Then came the Padres.
“They came to us,” Malone shared. “When Dunkin’ left and the coffee category opened up again, Padres staff who were already fans of the brand reached out.” The result? A full Petco Park takeover. Mostra espresso is now available at all concessions, suites, lounges, and a dedicated retail space inside the stadium.
For Malone’s father, a lifelong Padres fan, the moment was especially meaningful. “He was more excited about this than when I interviewed Kobe Bryant,” she joked.
Building a Legacy
Mostra’s impact extends far beyond the ballpark. It has become a case study in community-powered entrepreneurship, women-led business, and the power of cultural heritage. Malone credits her entrepreneurial spirit to her Lolo—one of the founders of the San Diego Filipino American Chamber of Commerce and owner of his own dental lab—who always believed Filipinos should support and uplift one another.
Today, she juggles motherhood, entrepreneurship, and even a return to entertainment. She’s currently filming and co-producing a movie, continuing to embody the multifaceted identity she once dreamed of seeing represented in media.
Her advice to her younger self? “Trust your vision. Live your wildest dreams. You can do it—because I did it.”
From starting with zero coffee knowledge to taking over one of Major League Baseball’s most iconic stadiums, Mostra Coffee is more than a brand—it’s a movement, a mission, and a beacon of Filipino pride.
