Summer is here and a new wave of cohorts have made their way through nursing school to take on their biggest challenge yet… student loans! Just kidding, it’s their National Counsel Leisure Exam, also known as the NCLEX, which is the nationwide examination for licensing of nurses in the United States. All their schooling has culminated to this one test that defines if they will achieve their dreams of becoming nurses or not, which only had a passing rate of 79% in 2024, might I add. And of course, everything in life has a Youtube Tutorial, Tik Tok hack, or even chat GPT, to help everyone skip to the good parts. And in dedication to see more Filipinos achieve financial security in the world of medicine, we have asked our IG followers, scoured reddit forums, and even sought out viral nurse influencers to find their Top 10 tips to pass the NCLEX. So let's get into Kollective Hustle’s Top 10 Tips to pass your NCLEX.

Enrolling in a Prep Review Program:

1. Mark Klimek

This was the most frequently answered during our Instagram poll. Mark Klimek on reddit has been described as the patron saint of NCLEX studying with transcripts and lectures that will guide you to NCLEX heaven. This would be our number one place to start for your NCLEX studying.

2. Simple Nursing

Having a plan of attack is always the best course of action and with a 99% pass rate, Simple Nursing provides just that. With lecture / notes / questions written by former NCLEX writers, this course will walk you through step by step to be ready for your exam.

3. Archer Review

Along with all the other great resources that Archer Review has like videos, webinars, and case studies, Redditors answered that the Archer Review readiness assessments were crucial to determining their likelihood of passing the NCLEX. Their system has a series of questions aimed to gauge your strengths and weaknesses in regards to your NCLEX readiness.

4. Uworld

Another popular suggestion from Instagram, UWorld’s slogan “Pass the Next Generation NCLEX-RN the First Time” has many graduates flocking to their program to utilize their 2,300+ prep questions, 500+ NGN questions, and practice tests, to get you locked in for test day.

5. NCLEX Bootcamp

Although most IG replies were pointing to the previous 4 programs, I did have one suggestion to use NCLEX Bootcamp. So who knows, if it helped her pass, it might just be the tool you would need to pass! With so many positive reviews on their website, this new program might be the new hotness to help you get over the NCLEX hump. It’s also worth noting that many users reported that this program is more affordable than other 3rd party programs.

Self Coach Approach:

1. Create a Study Plan / Create Study Schedule

One of the biggest tips that you probably already know of (but might have already forgotten) is to create a study plan. This means we don’t open our books whenever we feel like it but have a set routine to set aside time to spend equally in each section. Consistent spaced out studying has been proven to be more effective for retaining information, so don’t kid yourself thinking you can just cram a few weeks before.

2. Review books / Self Test

You have years of notes that you can look over, what help would a book be? Well books like Saunders Comprehensive Review has almost 4,000 Amazon Reviews all praising the thoroughness of the content covered on the NCLEX. One Redditor used it specifically for their weaker areas of knowledge and used the tests in each section to raise proficiency. Resources like Quizlet or Youtube can be helpful with free sets of practice questions, all you need to do is look. Famous Instagram Nurse, Nurse Nate @thedudenurse said “doing 50 practice questions everyday and reading the rationales on the questions he got wrong” were the most helpful for preparation.

3. Find a study group

Many nursing schools have study groups that consist of like minded people who are determined to stay the course and see it through to the end. Having consistent study partners is great for accountability, increasing the amount of study resources you have, and staying motivated.

4. Take Breaks / Work Out / Take Creatine

Taking adequate breaks to allow your brain to reset is a must when you are studying. Moreover, exercising your body gets blood flow going and helps release stress that will build up throughout the process. Bonus tip, taking creating has been known to help build muscle but has also recently been discovered to help with cognitive function, particularly in memory, attention, and processing speed.

5. Meditation / Visulatization

Lastly, practice exams will always be key to knowing how to respond but like myself, being in the exam room, feeling the tension in the air, noticing my heartbeat rapidly increasing can easily set anyone off kilter. A thing many pro athletes do to perform better during high stress situations is to meditate and to visualize what that exact moment will feel like. What outfit am I wearing, what’s the temperature like that day, imagine what the room will look like. Going through these small exercises can help drastically minimize the overwhelming fear and anxiety that come with test taking as a whole.
