Need some new music to vibe to Spotify reccomendations isnt quite hitting the spot lately? Check out some of our new fave Fil/FilAm artists. From the bustling streets of Manila to home studios in Los Angeles, these tracks will be on repeat and your playlists instantly refreshed.

1. Dal’wang Patinig - SunKissed Lola

SunKissed Lola

‘Dal’wang Patinig’ is a feel good song talking about the desire of being “chosen”, to be reciprocated by the protagonist's love interest. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a desperate cry for attention but rather “take my hand, let’s take on life’s problems together” The upbeat tempo, sincere message, and joyful harmonies make ‘Dal’wang Patinig’ one of my favorite OPM songs that should be added to your next playlist.

2. Raining In Manila - Lola Amour

Lola Amour

If you haven’t heard ‘Raining In Manila’ by now, you can now add this to your playlist and join the 83 million in June who have loved his summer bop. A song about longing and happiness that can resonate with any listener whether you’re perceiving it from a romantic standpoint or a platonic point of view, the imagery of the world renowned tropical rains in Manila paired with Japanese pop as it’s inspiration, ‘Raining In Manila’ will be a song that hits you in the feels in all the right ways.

3. Silver Skies - MANILA GREY (NXSTY Remix)

MANILA GREY (NXSTY Remix)

Canadian Hip Hop / R&B duo, MANILA GREY, bring a sound reminiscent to The Weeknd with their heavy drum beats and baritone vocals contrasted with tenor powered choruses. But the NXSTY Remix is more energized, really bringing the club energy that pairs well with the original R&B undertone through the entire track.

4. Confidential - Nieman

Nieman

Fresh from his nationwide tour with AJ Rafael, RnB / Pop singer-songwriter, Nieman, brings us an electro / hip hop sound on his new song, ‘Confidential’. A song about professing your affection for someone, ready to be in love and not keep the protagonists feelings “confidential” anymore. Do yourself a favor, next time you burn a CD for your special someone, add this to the track and thank Nieman when your partner feels all the kilig.

5. Homebdy - DEMI, slimedemidemislime, Madman Stan

DEMI

A newer group of artists I’ve just stumbled upon, DEMI, slimedemidemislime, and Madman Stan, come together to bring that 2020’s hip hop sound. Think of Jhene Aiko and Childish Gambino. Half in Tagalog and Half in English, this one can appeal to both Fil-am’s and mainland Filipinos.

6. MANHID - K.O.N.

MANHID - K.O.N.

For me, the production of this song instantly slapped right from the jump. If you close your eyes and just listen to the essence of the track, it’s very similar to Bryson Tiller, Chris Brown, and a hint of BLXST. And if you know anything about Fil-am culture, they love them some BLXST. I would tell you to use this song to set the “mood” however the artist is trying to convey the struggle of emotional detachment and the desperation to regain human connection and the impact on our emotions. Such a well written song that needs to be on playlists all around the world.

7. Nahuhulog - Jed Baruelo

Pop rock sensation, Jed Baruelo, truly brought me back to my highschool days listening to John Mayer. His newest song, Nahuhulog, claims to be about the unexplainable feeling of falling in love and “being completely entranced by someone”. Similar to John Mayer, Baruelo ties alt-rock melodies with ‘80s synths and lush arrangements, the song is curated like vinyl ear candy that’s super sweet without compromising on the heart heavy sensation of falling for someone.

8. Pano - Zack Tabudlo

Zack Tabudlo

Self-written and composed by Zack Tabudlo himself, ‘Pano’ translates to the english word ‘How’, more specifically, the hows and intricacies of love. The emotive and introspective lyrics truly shine and resonate with listeners tastefully placed over a classic pop rock production. Listening to ‘Pano’ makes me think of the scene in every 90’s teen drama where the guy realizes that he messed up and he now realizes how truly in love he is with her.

9. B.A.D. - Denise Julia, P-Lo

Denise Julia and P-Lo

Bringing that iconic bay area hip hop sound, Denise Julia and P-Lo team up to deliver a 2000’s type of R&B track that is worth the listen. We all know P-Lo as an upcoming Filipino producer and rapper who can get any party hyped but he pairs up with Denise Julia on B.A.D. that sounds like a cross between Ariana Grande and newer Chris Brown in my opinion.

10. SMILE - Ta-ku (feat. Xavier Omär, DAISY WORLD & ROMderful)

Ta-ku (feat. Xavier Omär, DAISY WORLD & ROMderful)

If you’re looking for a song to take you on a journey into a world of vibey hip hop ambience, check out SMILE by Ta-Ku (feat. Xavier Omär, DAISY WORLD & ROMderful). The emotion rich drum kit paired with soothing melodies and music production similar to Nujabes, this is the ideal song to close your eyes and let the music take you away.
