6 STYLES TO KEEP YOUR CLOSET RIGHT in 2023

If we could pick one word to describe the fashion trends that will dominate the style-obssessed feeds of your favorite celebs and influencers in the ever changing landscape of fashion this year, it’s Resurgence. Yep, what’s old is new again. And what’s new is old, so if you’re lucky you may already have many items on this list trapped deep in your closet. And even better, every item in this list is unisex.

1. Chunky Shoes

2022 was the renaissance of the chunky shoe. We saw fashion coming full circle with the resurgence of Nike Dunks this past year. The dunk is one of the hottest shoes to be brought back by celebrities like Travis Scott and Virgil Alboloh, making way for the “Panda” Nike Dunk to become a 2022 staple. However, if you want to stray a little off the mainstream look, New Balance has come out with several models of shoes that have frequently sold out due to the increase of popularity. The New Balance 2002 and 550 are a pair of chunky shoes that are a casual flex that will keep your shoe game up to date.

2. Clogs / Mules

Since 2020, it’s no secret that Crocs have been seen on feet everywhere, ranging from athletes to famous musicians. The Crocs brand has taken the modern day clog into mainstream fashion with storm. However since then, the basic croc has been improved on with variations and collaborations that constantly sell out. Such collabs are featuring artists like Bad Bunny, Justin Beiber, or even Cars from Disney. Since then, we have seen the clog and mule format become an easy add on to any closet, more specifically the boom of the birkenstock boston clog. Although they are difficult to find at the moment, we still see the birk on the feet of fashionistas everywhere. If you are looking for a pair of unique crocs to immediately add to your closet and don’t have the patience to wait for a restock, I recommend grabbing a pair of Merrell Hydro Moc Water Shoe, it has a similar silhouette to the Croc clog but provides a little more flair to make any croc lover jealous.

3. Cargos

Nothing new is under the sun and fashion is bringing back cargos. The trend for ‘Y2K fashion’ took off this past year and is showing no sign of slowing down. The era of skinny fit jeans has come to a pause making way for wider pant fits and sporting cargo pockets is a must have. Not only does it remind me of the days when we would turn our pants into shorts with a zipper on the knee but the cargo utility look also appeals to the carhartt, working man aesthetic, that we see on a lot of men today. So with the versatility of cargos matching the outdoorsman vintage look or the Y2K Gen Z trend, be on the lookout to see stores changing their upcoming spring & summer lines to follow suit.

4. Fleece

I already mentioned how common it is to see fashionistas and hipsters alike, sporting the vintage outdoorsman look. And it’s not a secret that brands like north face, patagonia, or columbia are very fashionable in colder cities. So as to be expected, it will always be in style as long as the season continues to have cold seasons following warmer months. That being said, it only makes sense to see this style of clothing “boom” and this year it's bringing fleece with it. Find yourself getting warm with a fuzzy fleece jacket! Personally, I picked up a reversible MondaySuck fleece from their recent fall line that sports fuzzy fleece on the outside and a water resistant reversible interior for rainy occasions.

5. Varsity

One of the most iconic all-american looks anyone can sport is the varsity jacket. With clothing lines like Aime Leon Dore and Zara pushing the smart prep aesthetic, the best way to show off your schoolboy / schoolgirl pride is a varsity jacket. The classic look paired with bright colors and patches can make any statement as to how you want people to see your personality, stylish and classic. The best part about a varsity jacket is the ability to wear it during any season. It’s the perfect outer piece to layer on cold nights or an accent piece to throw around your shoulders at any summer bonfire. Time to dust off those lettermans because it’s varsity or nothing this school year.

6. Soccer Kits

With the World Cup having just ended, it’s no strange sight to see soccer kits being worn on every man, woman, and child. Let’s be honest, after the finals, we were all Lionel Messi fans. But it doesn’t stop with just the World Cup, we have seen streetwear lean into the soccer kit even before the tournament. Professional soccer team, AS Roma, partnered with Aries’ and New Balance to create a fashionable “on pitch” kit that debuted this past November. Even luxury brands like Gucci and Balenciaga had to get in on the action and create collaborations of their own with streetwear brands Palace and Adidas. The era of basketball jerseys might be finding a formidable foe with the soccer kits global popularity skyrocketing.
