Travelling to the Philippines in 2022

The Philippines is FINALLY open for travel.
Here is what you should know if you’re looking to book a trip back home anytime soon.
Ready to visit friends and family after 2 years of a global pandemic? Or maybe ready for rest and relaxation on the white sand beaches of Boracay? Now, you can without the cumbersome restrictions and quarantine requirements.
As most of you know, that as of February 10, 2022, the Philippines has instituted visa-free travel and no longer requires vaccinated visitors to quarantine in government facilities upon arrival. But you will need to show your Vaccine Card (hard copy or digital copy) frequently, so best to have it handy in sleeve protector so you don’t risk tearing or spilling something on it.
Here’s a couple more things to keep in mind as you plan your long-awaited trip back home:
All travelers will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 48 hours of their departure as well as self-monitor for symptoms for seven days after arrival. Many places these days offer results in less than 24 hours so getting them quick is no longer an issue, thankfully.
Unvaccinated travelers WILL have to quarantine in a government facility, test negative for COVID-19 on the fifth day, and then quarantine at home until the 14th day, according to the embassy.
Children under 18 are exempt from vaccination requirements.
Passengers traveling to the Philippines must register with the One Health Pass (OHP) and complete an electronic Health Declaration Card (eHDC).
All incoming travelers need to fill in their travel details and flight information before taking a flight to the Philippines. You must provide contact details, health data, and other information about you trip. You can apply for free at website www.onehealthpass.com.ph. No need for a designated quarantine hotel; just leave it blank on the form.
Oh and a couple more helpful tips:
Luggage weight. While the travel ban is officially lifted, nothing has changed with airlines strictness about luggage weight, even hand carry bags. Make sure you weigh before you leave home to avoid the unnecessary unpacking and redistributing at the airport.
Full flights. High chance of packed flights as people are eager to go home without needing to quarantine. Be ready for long wait times and congested check-in lines.
Since most flights will be packed- your patience at immigration and coast guard lines will definitely be tested! There will be a long and slow line upon arrival for the coast guard and immigration booths. Make things easier by ensuring you have your documents at the ready.
And finally, while many are already clamoring to buy plane tickets and plan their trips, do remember that as of February 15, 2022, the U.S. still currently classifies the Philippines as high risk destination at Level 4 (Do Not Travel) because of Covid-19. The classification indicates a “very high level of Covid-19 in the country.”
Safe travels, KH fam!
