BINI Takes P-Pop to the Next Level: How 'Cherry on Top' is Continuing to Shatter Records
BINI, the rising stars of P-pop, have delivered another hit with their infectious track “Cherry on Top.” This after their success with the group's EP “Talaarawan”, and singles such as "Pantropiko" and "Salamin, Salamin". Their newest song immediately made waves, hitting 1 million YouTube views within just four hours of its release and later amassing over 3 million views within a day. Known for its vibrant energy and summer vibe, the track showcases BINI’s playful yet polished style, blending fun visuals with catchy beats.
The music video features multiple allusions to Filipino culture, including an illustration of the pagmamano customs, a balikbayan box, and the local specialties, halo-halo and banana cue. A typical Philippine morning is also shown in the video, complete with people using things like pandesal dipped in coffee and walis tingting, or brooms, on the streets. Kerbs Balagtas directed the music video.
The song released on July 11, 2024 and has achieved impressive milestones on multiple platforms. It topped iTunes Philippines and landed in Spotify’s New Music Friday playlists across various countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. It debuted at No. 5 on the *Billboard Philippines* Top Philippine Songs chart, marking it as another significant entry in BINI’s growing discography.
The music video was particularly well-received, trending at No. 1 on YouTube Philippines and becoming a hot topic on social media, where fans, known as “Blooms,” celebrated its success. The song’s international appeal is further proof that BINI is not just a local sensation but also a contender on the global stage of pop music.
"Cherry on Top" is in the key of C major and has a tempo of 76 beats per minute. It has been characterized as a bubblegum pop song. The track was produced by Japanese Shintaro Yasuda and American Skylar Mones and composed by Boy Matthews, Gaby Ramirez, Shintaro Yasuda, and Skylar Mones. Collaboration took place during a writer's camp in 2023, with Bini members Colet and Maloi contributing to the creative process.
In terms of accolades, “Cherry on Top” continues to affirm BINI’s status as P-pop’s breakout stars. Their achievements so far include awards like Billboard Philippines' Rising Star Award and recognition in *Teen Vogue’s* Girl Groups to Watch.
As BINI embarks on their BINIverse tour, with plans for international performances during Fall 24, “Cherry on Top” is sure to remain a superfan favorite and signature track in their journey to global stardom.
