How a Former Teen Actress Became One of LA’s Critical Care Guardians | Meet Bernie Ann Estiandan

On today’s episode of Business Casual, we’re spotlighting a Filipina American powerhouse whose winding professional journey is rooted in courage, community, and cultural pride: Bernie Ann Estendian. Before joining healthcare, Bernie was a young actress in the Philippines—already learning how to rise in high-pressure moments with confidence.

Today, she’s a Critical Care Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Respiratory Therapist in Los Angeles, delivering ICU-level care by air and by ground.

As her dream job, Bernie says its a perfect fit for her because “I’m an adrenaline junkie who loves helping people, so becoming an ICU-level care provider in a helicopter was the only logical career choice for me! Just kidding. During my day shadowing the team as a new graduate, I was astounded by their efficiency. They could stabilize the sickest patients I’ve ever encountered in less than an hour, while some facilities couldn’t even do it in a full shift.  “

Bernie shows up for her culture by leading with excellence- carrying her Filipino values into every mission she flies. We got to sit down with Bernie in this new episode.
