Cue the Kilig: 10 of Our favorite FilAm inspired Valentine’s Day Cards

As January comes to a close, it’s about that time to dig into all your mental notes about your loved ones' likes / dislikes and start making preparations for the most romantic holiday of the year, Valentines Day! And what better way to show that you truly care about someone than to get them a thoughtful Valentines Day card that shows how thoughtful it was to find the perfect card for your perfect person. Well if you’re dating a Filipino or if you want to share your Filipino culture with your Valentine, we have searched Etsy for our top 10 FilAm inspired Valentine’s Day Cards for your love to shine brighter than the Manila sun.

We love this first card because it brings the classic Valentine heart shaped candy to the forefront but with Filipino terms of affection written on the front of each candy. This is a great ice breaker for a FilAm or from a FilAm, implying romantic feelings but at a very surface level since it’s a pun on childhood candy. Check out MieMakessShop if this is the card for you and your love.

This card from ShopSimplicitea is the perfect entry level Valentine card for the newest daters or even the most seasoned couples. With Jollibee being voted as the best fried chicken and quickly growing into a beloved American fast food staple, this card encompasses the FilAm culture while still communicating light and flirtatious signals.

But if Jollibee isn’t common from where you’re from, I don’t think there’s a Filam out there who doesn’t love our beloved purple taro, most commonly known as ube. So give your Valentine the equivalent to a box of chocolates with a punny card about u-bae.  This one is also from Etsy on muijistudio.

We have another great, entry level romantic food related Valentine card from Swooningstudio that is catered the more culturally aware Filipino American. Taho to me is the nostalgic sound of a sweet treat being sold on the streets of the Philippines, instantly bringing back any Filipino who has been fortunate enough to experience that firsthand in the motherland.

If you are unsure if Taho is too much of a deep cut, you can opt for one of these 3 cards that are slightly more intimate but based on more commonly known authentic Filipino dishes. Filipinos love their foods and these cute and funny food puns will find their ways into their hearts through their stomachs. That’s the fastest way to make someone fall in love with you, right?

But maybe light and flirty isn’t what you’re going for? This year you really want to communicate that you’re more serious and you’re truly in love. “Sunshine in the rain, tylenol when I'm in pain” type of love. Then nothing says that more than connecting through our mother tongue of Tagalog. This could be a very endearing card if YOU might not be Filam but dating / married to a Filam. But even if you’re both Filipino, there’s no playing games with such a cute and eloquent card like this by KNRCreative.

And of course, don’t worry BittermelonCreative covered all my Ilocano speaking couples out there.

If you’re really trying to make an impression and hit your Valentine in the feels, proceed with caution, this card from MaarteByJan says exactly what every young Filipino exactly what they’ve been wishing to hear since their childhood. Although, this is more on the joke side and not the romantic side, it shows that you listened and understand them on a deeper level through their deepest traumas. Better yet, if you’re a parent, you could be the parent you never had by giving this to your son or daughter, unironically and straight from the heart.
